Dates: August 3-5, 2023
Location: NOW arena in Hoffman Estates, IL
So...I just attended the 2023 US Core Hydration Classic in Hoffman Estates, IL. And it was an absolute blast! The anticipation for these meets have been building for months as we are just months away from Paris 2024 (in July 2024). Seeing former Olympians return (including Simone Biles after a 2 year hiatus) and new rising stars step up was exciting. Here is are the results and a little recap of how it went!
*A small snippet I recorded of Simone's floor routine, performing one of her signature floor moves "The Biles" (double layout with a half turn).

Recap:
The atmosphere was great, for both senior and junior meets. The energy was high, the excitement was felt, especially Saturday night when Simone Biles made her public elite appearance since her 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Biles is back and better than ever, and everyone felt it. Leanne Wong, sporting her own bow from her shop, performed exceedingly as she placed 2nd all around. The men, after a very long 8-rotation first session, worked hard throughout the meet. Asher Hong, the 18 year-old from Stanford University, impresses the nation with his overall performance, placing first in the all around. Khoi Young second and Paul Juda third. It was overall, a great meet, that many gymnastics enthusiasts have been craving since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. On to the next event: The 2023 US Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, CA on August 24-27, 2023.
Honorable Mentions:
Yul Moldauer, a crowd favorite, performed very well on three events: pommel horse, parallel bars and the highbar. Since he didn't compete in all 6 events, he didn't place in all around. Same goes for Donnell Whittenburg. Jordan Chiles was also a treat to watch, sporting her custom GK collaboration leo, competing only on uneven bars ending in 4th place with a 13.9 and beam with a 12.8.
Other former elite gymnasts that I spotted there: Jordyn Wieber, Chellsie Memmel, Alicia Sacramone. (Chellsie and Alicia presented the Senior Women their medals and flowers for the All Around postitions.) Very fun to see former Olympians in person and still in full support of the sport and its athletes!
